Happy Late Homecoming!

 Hey y'all!

Happy late homecoming! This year homecoming weekend was extra special because it was not only Ohio Northern University’s homecoming but also my sister’s senior high school homecoming dance. I was honored to be selected for homecoming court at ONU and my mom was running back and forth between Ada and Lima to make sure she could see both of our events.

The day began with the homecoming parade. I rode in the trolley as part of the court and my grandparents and family were there cheering from the sidewalks. The streets were filled with students, alumni and community members waving flags and signs and the excitement was contagious. As soon as the parade ended, I went back to my apartment to change into my cheer uniform for practice before the football game.

After changing, I joined my cheer team and we practiced stunts and routines for about an hour. The team worked hard and the practice was intense but rewarding. We focused on timing jumps and lifts and running through each cheer until it felt polished. The sun was bright and the heat was unusual for October at 80 degrees, but it did not dampen our energy or enthusiasm.

Once practice ended, I met my dad and grandparents for tailgate food and gluten free brownies. We ate outside and enjoyed the atmosphere, talking with other families and students and soaking in the school spirit. Soon it was time to head down to the sidelines for the game. Cheering in the hot sun was challenging but seeing the crowd and the team on the field made it all worth it. The energy in the stadium was amazing and the pride of being part of homecoming court added to the excitement.

I left at halftime to head back to Lima and take pictures of my sister in her homecoming dress. She looked happy and confident and her excitement was contagious. I would not have missed her senior celebration for the world. After her dance, she and her boyfriend came back to our house and we spent the evening eating, playing games and enjoying time with family.

The day was long and busy but full of special memories. Being part of homecoming court, cheering at the game and celebrating my sister’s senior homecoming made the weekend unforgettable. I am grateful for the time spent with family and the joy of sharing such meaningful moments together. This weekend will always stand out as a highlight of my college and family experience.

That's all for now!

Xoxo, Mia Ann
