Celebrating Juneteenth in Lima
Last weekend I had the privilege of covering the Juneteenth event in downtown Lima as part of my
internship experience. The event was a vibrant celebration of freedom, culture and community that left a lasting impression on me.
Upon arrival, the atmosphere was lively with live music resonating throughout the whole area, drawing in an amazing crowd. The event featured a variety of food trucks with all kinds of amazing foods. Along with that, cute small businesses like a flower shop offering custom bouquets and a stand for fresh-squeezed lemonade and baked goods were major attractions at the event.
One of the standout aspects of the Juneteenth celebration was the sense of love and inclusivity among everyone there. People from different backgrounds came together to honor and celebrate freedom fostering meaningful connections and conversations. It was so amazing to witness such unity and positivity within the community.
Seeing so much joy, inclusivity, and acceptance made me incredibly happy, especially considering the hate and division that can sometimes dominate our world today.
From engaging with local vendors to enjoying the live music and culinary offerings, the Juneteenth event in Lima provided a great experience that celebrated both the historical significance of the day and the vibrant spirit of the community. It was a memorable opportunity to witness firsthand the power of culture and community in bringing people together.
So thankful my boss chose me to cover this event.
